Another piece of the Jerry Angelo regime is gone.

And we have a deal: Bears traded OL Gabe Carimi to Tampa Bay for a sixth-round pick in 2014.

Gabe Carimi who struggled with injuries since being drafted in the first round by the Chicago Bears now departs and all the Bears get in the end is a 6th round pick. There in lies the Bears 1st round misses during the Angelo era.

In two seasons with the Bears Carimi started 2 games in 2011 before getting injured against the New Orleans Saints which forced him to miss the remainder of that season.  Last year Carimi started 14 out of 16 games but was part of one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL.

The Bears signed nothing but lineman after drafting Kyle Long in the first round including  free agents Eben Britton and Matt Slauson.  Carimi had two years left on his contract which is guaranteed for just over 1 million a year.

Gabe Carimi is Betting Big on Himself

We’ve all been ragging on Carimi for staying away from Halas Hall but someone out there thinks he’s doing the right thing and betting big on himself.

“Now, where it gets a little sketchy, you can’t go back and be OK. You can’t go back and be good. You’ve got to go back and be damn good. That’s where the pressure falls back onto the player and, to be quite frank, that is where it belongs. Let these guys stand up and man up for themselves. These are their careers. If Gabe Carimi is going to be labeled as a bust, let this man do it on his own terms.”

Preach on!  If he’s going to be a bust, better he stay away from Halas Hall so as to not spread around whatever he’s got in case it’s contagious.

 Robbie Expects to Return as Good as Gould

Robbie Gould expects to be cleared to return by the Dallas surgeon who worked on his injured calf on Tuesday and the Bears to clear him by Wednesday so he can re-join his teammates in workouts by Thursday.

“I’ll be just as good. I have busted my butt to get healthy and I can’t wait to get out there and show everyone.”

Can’t wait to see Robbie back in action.

Draft Move

The NFL draft could be on the move in 2014. Thanks to a Rockettes show scheduled for Radio City Music Hall, the draft is getting pushed back, likely to May 15th on a 1-year trial basis.   No other changes are confirmed at this time, but there’s been some talk about moving free agency and the start of the league year up to the end of February and the scouting combine to mid-March.

And all the NFL bloggers out there let out a big cheer!

Gabe Carimi’s days with the Chicago Bears appear to be numbered.  Carimi, who’s already facing an uphill battle just to make the final 53-man roster, decided that it was OK to skip the first day of OTA’s and work out on his own.

Former Chicago Bears first-round draft pick Gabe Carimi was a no-show at Halas Hall on Monday when the team took the field for the first organized team activity of the offseason, according to a source familiar with the situation…

According to multiple sources, Carimi hasn’t been with the team since he participated in the club’s voluntary three-day minicamp held from April 16-18. Following the conclusion of the minicamp, Carimi informed the Bears he planned to skip the second phase of the Bears’ offseason program that included individual on-field work and positional meetings in favor of returning to Arizona to continue his offseason training.

Carimi felt working out in Arizona gave him the best opportunity to return to the field healthy and avoid the knee problems that have plagued him the last two years, a source said.

Call it Jerry Angelo’s final revenge because yet another first round draft pick offensive lineman appears destined for the scrap heap. (more…)

After Sunday’s 28-10 victory over the Vikings, the big question lingering for the Bears was how the injuries would impact them going forward.  One piece to that puzzle fell into place on Monday and not in a good way as the Bears placed guard Lance Louis on Injured Reserve with a torn ACL, ending his season. On this Thanksgiving, it’s possible Jay Cutler might be a little thankful for some changes on the Bears’ offensive line.  The dominoes started to fall on Wednesday as Chilo Rachal walked out on the team, quitting after he was demoted in favor of Chris Spencer at left guard.  On Thursday, right tackle Gabe Carimi was benched for journeyman tackle Jonathan Scott.  Changing 40% of your offensive line is no small endeavor, but after the pitiful performance last Monday in the Bears’ 32-7 loss to San Francisco.
