According to chicagobears.com, J’Marcus Webb is feeling good about competing for the right tackle position. When asked about the transition he would have to make, he said

“Things happen and you can’t control a few things, but it’ll be a great move… I can play right tackle … I can move my hands a little bit, so it should be fun” Webb also discussed his “improvement” over the last few seasons. “I definitely took a step forward and, like I said, I’m just here to help in any way possible.”

It seems as though J’Marcus has caught the Chicago Cubs virus. He promises success during the offseason, but fails during the regular season.

I was tasked to come up with the Chicago Bears’ 2012 least valuable players. Where do I begin? Over the course of the season, the Bears have a myriad of players who specialize in making fans angry. Most of these players seem to be completely worthless. However, this list is not for the worthless players; it is for players below the level of worthless. Players who are better off not being on the team. Players who I legitimately feel like my mother can play better than. Who better to start with in a list of pitiful players with tight end, Kellen Davis?

1) Kellen Davis

Nov 11, 2012; Chicago, IL, USA; Houston Texans safety Danieal Manning (38) forces Chicago Bears tight end Kellen Davis (87) to fumble during the first quarter at Soldier Field. Mandatory Credit: Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports

Kellen Davis was one of the main s0urce of Chicago Bear fan aggravation during the 2012 season. He played all 16 games, but only caught 19 balls despite being targeted 44 times. There is no excuse for only catching 2 touchdowns either, especially considering one of them was in garbage time against Green Bay. Perhaps the most aggravating thing about Davis is the fact that he looks like he should be a great tight end; he is 6’7″, 267 pounds, and he appears to be physically dominant. He’s not. He has hands of granite.

I expect new acquisition Martellus Bennett to fill the void that’s been around since Greg Olson left as a legitimate pass catching tight end who can actually block. (more…)

Make no mistake about it, football is in the category of an “entertainment business”. It is big money and a major influence in our day-to-day lives; especially in the fall. A GM’s first priority is to field a competitive team that will attract followers, create a “buzz” (that is non-narcotic in nature). For those players that prefer the buzz generated from an illicit substance; well that would elicit a response from the fans, the league and yes, the law. But really, how important is it in the overall scheme of things football related? (more…)

Chicago Bears offensive tackle J’Marcus Webb made headlines recently, and not the kind of press he wanted, when he was arrested for marijuana possession. The good news for the 24-year old tackle is that the charges were dropped. Why, you might ask? Here are our Top 5 Reasons J’Webb beat the rap:

5. It was medicinal

After he was pulled over, J’Marcus couldn’t produce the necessary paperwork to prove that his marijuana was medicinal, but a copy of his prescription was faxed down to the Pulaski County State’s attorney by Chicago Bears team physician “Dr. Cameran Gyrl” cleared things up quickly.

4. It’s legal

J’Marcus was able to convince prosecutors that pot is legal in JWebb Nation. ”As a sovereign nation, JWebb Nation has legalized pot.” Webb cited diplomatic immunity while travelling outside the borders of JWebb Nation.

3. Webb Threatened to Sue for Being Pushed

While taking Webb into custody, the arresting officer got a little rough with Webb, shoving him multiple times. The good-natured Webb didn’t shove back, as he’s been known to do, and threatened to press charges against the officer.

2. Marc Trestman, Attorney at Law

Many of you may not know this, but new Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman is a lawyer. It was actually part of GM Phil Emery’s plan to get his players out of trouble. ”In today’s NFL, it’s important to have a head coach who can deal with all aspects of player development, including managing their legal situations. Marc was the perfect fit and actually saves the McCaskeys a few bucks by wearing multiple hats.”

Even though he hasn’t sat for the Illinois Bar Exam just yet, Trestman fired up Bear Force 1 and was down in southern Illinois threatening to file a mountain of motions and the Pulaski County State’s attorney “could go blind on paperwork for the next six months.”

1. The State’s Attorney is a Packer Fan

Pulaski County State’s Attorney Grayson Gile

Thanks to sources deep inside the Pulaski County State’s attorney’s office, Bear Goggles On has learned that Pulaski County State’s Attorney Grayson Gile is a die-hard Packer fan. You read that correctly, he’s a Packer Backer. The anonymous source quoted Gile:

“As soon as I realized who he was, I decided to drop charges. I didn’t want to let Packer Nation down and slow down the Clay Matthews Express to Jay Cutler around left end.”

What do you think, Bears fans? Why do you think J’Webb beat the drug rap? Let’s see your ideas in the Comments.

The 24 year old veteran tackle was arrested following a routine traffic stop on Sunday in Pulaski County, near Carbondale. Webb was reportedly speeding on I-57 and was pulled over when the arresting officer found less than 2.5 grams of marijuana. Initially, Webb was charged with “possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding.” Webb tweeted an apology earlier in the day: “Headed to Texas to train. I apologize.” I suppose the pot was medicinal and needed for training. (more…)

The Bears and Cowboys take center stage on Monday Night Football in Jerry Jones’ football megamall. Both teams come in with 2-1 records, but neither is really happy about their team. The Cowboys had an impressive Week 1 win over the Giants to kick off the season but followed it up with a clunker against the Seahawks. They managed to edge the Bucs in a another offensive struggle.

The Bears came out guns blazing in Week 1 over the Colts, but have struggled to get their offense going ever since vs the Packers and the Rams. While the offenses for both the Bears and the Cowboys have struggled but the defenses have more than made up for it. The Cowboys are ranked #1 overall defensively while the Bears come is ranked #6 overall. Expect both enigmatic quarterbacks Tony Romo and Jay Cutler to have challenging nights as their offensive lines have underachieved while the opposing pass rushes have flourished.

Not His First Rodeo

It seems like every week, we’re highlighting the matchup that Bears offensive tackle J’Marcus Webb will face and this week is no difference. DeMarcus Ware is a flat-out beast and should give Webb, Carimi and the Bears offense all that they can handle. In order to prevent another Primetime meltdown by Cutler, the Bears need to be aware of where Ware is (say that 5 times really fast) at all times. They need to run some screens at him and roll Cutler away from him to keep his ferocious pass rush at bay.

OK Corral

The Bears defensive line has exceeded expectations so far this season, helping the Bears to a league-leading 14 sacks. Cowboys quarterabck Tony Romo is elusive and can extend plays by sliding around in the pocket. The Bears need to corral that Cowpoke and keep him uncomfortably in the pocket.

Play it Close to the Vest

This game is going to be about defenses. The Cowboys’ defense enters Week 4 ranked #1 overall while the Bears are #6. It’s up to the Bears to play this one close to the vest. Do the little things – limit penalties, secure the ball, avoid mental errors – and they could hang around in a close defensively oriented game to come out of Big D with a W.

Stampede

There’s no better way to slow down a pass rush than by running the ball. It’s still unclear which Bears running back(s) will be healthy enough to go against the Cowboys. Matt Forte seems like he’s ready to go after missing a week with a bum ankle while reports indicate Michael Bush is going to try to give it a go with a bum shoulder. Who knows, it could end up being Kahlil Bell getting some carries. Regardless of who’s in, the Bears running backs need to get it going to take some heat off Jay Cutler and the passing game.

What do you think? What do the Bears need to do to come out of Dallas with a win? Share your thought in the Comments.
