In a season of anomalies and happenstance, it’s hard to believe in trends, but the Chicago Bears defense is starting to be a concern. While, we all know that they can change games with turnovers and big plays, those have been few and far between recently. Take away the five turnovers they had against the Minnesota Vikings two weeks ago, and they only have four turnovers since Week 12. They are also giving up 23.2 points, 368.2 yards and 21.4 first downs per game to opposing offenses. This is not the Bears defense that we are used to.

Since when did the whole world start hating the Bears? I know the Packers and Vikings hate the Bears, that’s a given. But every week the Bears win, it seems like more people want us to lose. Every article about the Bears these days is someone either ripping on them or making excuses as to why they are winning games. I understand that the Bears have had a lot of things go their way, but what good teams don’t catch some breaks? The 13-3 Super Bowl champion Saints played the four worst teams in the NFC (St. Louis, Detroit, Tampa Bay, Washington) last season but no one mentions that. It’s pretty funny that everyone chose the Bears to hate this year. Let’s take a look at a few things that people have been hatin’ on.

Blown Away: Bears Buried by Patriots 36-7

It was like sitting inside a snow globe. So what if it was a Jetsons meet the Flintstones called Soldier Field, it was still a sight to see. The scene was set for a showdown of first place teams but only one team showed up and it wasn’t the home team. The New England Patriots came into Soldier Field and snow-blowed the Bears 36-7. The Bears closest competition in the NFC North, the Green Bay Packers had just fallen to the lowly Detroit Lions, providing an opportunity for the Bears to go up two full games in the NFC North with three to go. Maybe that was the worst thing that could have happened? Maybe the notion that they had a little breathing room in the division instilled a sense of complacency. Maybe it was a team that thought they could sleepwalk through another half of football.

The Bears played the first half as if they had never seen snow and didn’t know how to deal with the elements. Before they knew what hit them, they were down 33-0 at halftime. Tom Brady and the Patriots offense exposed the Cover-2 defense while Mike Martz’s offense was never known as the Greatest Show on Skis for a reason. Drivin’ Deez Nuts: A Tackle a Play Keeps Touchdowns Away

As the Bears prepare to face the Patriots this Sunday, there is one thing that they absolutely have to address from their win against the Lions. The Bears tackling was utterly horrendous, especially in the first half. I kept track during the game and I show that they missed 843 tackles in the first half alone. Really, go ahead and count for yourself. Against the Patriots, one half of bad football can put you in a 20 point hole, ask the Jets top ranked defense about that.

Urlacher vs Brady Highlights Bears vs Patriots Matchup

Everyone wants to pit Jay Cutler against Tom Brady when previewing this Sunday’s matchup between the Bears and Patriots. Here’s the problem – they won’t be on the field against each other. You want to look at a key matchup? How about a couple of former Players of the Year? For me, the matchup to focus on will be the Bears’ Brian Urlacher and the Patriots’ Tom Brady.

The last time the Bears went to the Super Bowl was in 2006. That year, they played the New England Patriots too. One of the plays I’ll never forget (for a bad reason) was Tom Brady juking Brian Urlacher out of his jock. Here is the only video clip I could find of the play:

Bears vs Patriots Has All the Makings of an Instant Classic

The stage is set for an instant classic on Sunday as the Chicago Bears host the New England Patriots. CBS knew what they were doing when they moved this game to the prime 3:15 time slot. You’ve got two first place teams matched up in a December clash that some think could be (why not?) a Super Bowl preview.

The story lines abound. You’ve got the Mad Scientist Mike Martz vs the Hoodie Bill Belichick, the middle linebacker Brian Urlacher vs the pretty boy quarterback Tom Brady. Chicago vs Boston. Midwest vs East Coast. How about a re-match of the Super Bowl XX teams a mere 25 years after the Super Bowl Shufflin’ Bears captured their first Super Bowl title?

You can’t have an instant classic without great teams and some great stories, but the cherry on top will be the weather. Sunday’s forecast? Arctic winds, temperatures dropping into the single digits and a good chance for SNOW. Soldier Field will be rocking on Sunday. Bears vs Patriots Start Time Flexed

Tom Brady signals that game time is moving to 3:15.

In the wake of their surprising 31-26 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, the Bears are quickly becoming Must See TV. The December 12th game against the New England Patriots has been flexed to a 3:15 Central kickoff.

The Bears are no longer flying under the radar nationally. At 8-3, they’re are firmly entrenched in the NFC playoff discussion, sitting atop the NFC North a full game lead over the Green Bay Packers. Speaking of the Packers, that is the only remaining game on the schedule that could be flexed. (more…)
