The Chicago Bears – Minnesota Viking rivalry has heated up over the past few seasons and even more so now that Brett Favre has joined the mix.  While the Vikings have bested the Bears, posting a 53-42-2 all-time record, the teams have split the last 22 games, dating back to 1999.  So, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at some key offensive players in Sunday’s Bears vs. Vikings game and see how they have fared against each other in the past.

]]> The story of the Bears-Packers rivalry is well documented; the oldest rivalry in the NFL, dating back to 1921.  So last week when I pulled down the YouTube video of the crazy fan catch on Monday Night Football, it got me to thinking about the story within the story, the history of the rivalry on Monday Night Football.  I remembered the Fridge exploding on the national scene in 1985, the horrible Halloween night when the Bears retired Dick Butkus’ and Gale Sayers’ jerseys in a torrential downpour.   It turns out, the Bears and Packers have faced off 8 times on Monday Night Football leading up to tonight’s showdown.

Looking back at the results, the news is not good, my friends.  Not only will the Beloved be battling the hated rivals from north of the Cheddar Curtain tonight, they’ll be battling a 5-game losing streak on MNF against the Packers.  The last Bears’ victory versus the Packers on Monday Night Football came on September 22, 1986.  Yes, you read that right, 1986.  I don’t know about you, but I was in 8th grade back then.

It shouldn’t be surprising, since the 1990′s were the Dark Ages of the rivalry, where the Packers ripped off 10 straight victories against the Beloved from 1994 – 1998, including 3 on MNF.  The last time they met on Monday night, the Packers ruined the opening of the newly-remodeled Soldier Field on September 29, 2003.
