Jay hangs his head after a 5 INT night in San Fran.

The NFL has been re-stocking their coffers, doling out some juicy fines over the last few days. Chad Ochocinco’s $1 bribe to an official cost him $20,000 more.  Tommie Harris dropping a Deuce (Litui)?  $7500.

Just to add a little insult to injury, Jay Cutler has been fined $20k for “abusive conduct” toward the referee in last Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Jay should be fined for abusive conduct toward Bears fans and the game of football, because his 5 INT night last night in the Bears 10-6 loss to the 49ers set modern quarterbacking back a few decades.  Salt, meet wound.

If they want to fine Cutler, they should start fining him by the interception.  By the end of the season, they’ll make way more money that way.

As I saw tweeted by Vaughn McClure, Jay should have just punched the ref – it only cost Tommie $7500 for throwing a punch.

I was embarrassed, especially for my actions,” Harris said. “I apologized to him [Lutui] yesterday, [and] I called Larry [Fitzgerald] and had a chance to apologize to him.”I just want to apologize to my fans first off, and the little kids out there that saw that action. I shouldn’t behave in the manner. I apologize to my teammates, and I’ll make up for it.”

Tommie apologized, but he’s a sorry sack.  You know what Tommie needs?  He needs a little motivational speech from Week 10 opposing coach and former Bears legend Mike Singletary:

Singletary was ranting on Vernon Davis, but doesn’t this speech seem appropriate for Harris too?   This rant occurred last season.  Is it just coincidence that Davis is having a great season this year?

Absolutely no excuse for this.  Aside from Harris himself, Lovie Smith needs to be held accountable for this stupidity.  Not only is Lovie the head coach, but he’s also the defensive coordinator.  Throw a little blame Rod Marinelli’s way too.  These guys have lost control of Harris and the rest of the team for that matter.  Plenty more on the train wreck by the lake to come.

But on to Harris.  He’s had a rough stretch recently.  He was benched for the Cincinnati disaster for not practicing enough.  So he started practicing more.  Actually doing his job.  Yay Tommie!

Now, he basically suspended himself for the Cardinals game by throwing a punch on the 4th play of the game.  What good does throwing a punch do to a guy with a helmet on anyway?  I can’t wait to hear what this dumb ass has to say for himself.

Harris gets my nomination for the Alonzo Spellman award for being the next Bear most likely to be wandering down a suburban Chicago road shirtless in freezing temperatures and ending in a standoff requiring police intervention.

Whatever the case for Harris and whether or not he pulls a Spellman, this situation clearly isn’t going to end well in his relationship with the Bears.  It’s time for Tommie to go.  The only thing standing in the way is the big, fat contract extension that Jerry Angelo gave him.  Cutting Harris would be another admission of a bad decision by the Bears’ General Manager.
