In the wake of the failed Josh McDaniel experiment in Denver, I thought it would be fun to revisit the Kyle Orton – Jay Cutler trade. I expected to find that the Bears ended up making a decent deal and overall the teams ended up about even, it being only one and a half seasons later.

What I found is that the Denver Broncos ended up screwing themselves multiple times over and failing to take advantage of what could have been a very productive trade for them. Let’s call this post a little more salt in the wounds of “what could have been” for Josh McDaniels and Broncos fans. This one’s for you, Jay.

Is Olsen enough to get the Bears into the 2nd round?

He speculates that the Bears could be trying to trade up into the second round and the Patriots - owners of three second round picks – could be the perfect trading partner.  What could the Bears have that might interest the Pats?  How about Greg Olsen, who many believe doesn’t fit into Mike Martz’s scheme.  The Pats are in need of a tight end since losing Ben Watson.

I’m doubtful that Olsen is worth a second round pick and would be curious what else the Bears would have to package with Olsen to get into the second round.  Besides, we all know Jerry Angelo’s style – he hordes picks like a squirrel hording nuts before winter.

For my money, I expect JA to trade DOWN a couple of times to try to add more picks in this deep draft.

Sims became expendable for the Seahawks as they continue to clean house.   He signed his 4th round tender last week in an effort to speed up his trade and the Lions stepped up with the second selection of the 5th round.

Bears fans, let’s play a little game called Would You Rather?  A lot has been made recently about the alleged availability of disgruntled Denver QB Jay Cutler.  I have been among many that have called for the Bears and Jerry Angelo to put together a “whatever it takes” package to go get a 26-year old Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback entering the prime of his career. Sure, he’s acting like a diva with the way new Head Coach Josh McDaniels handled the Matt Cassel situation, but I seem to recall a certain “Punky QB” that roamed the sidelines in the 80′s that had a bit of an attitude too. See Jerry, I’ve done all of the hard work already.  All you have to do is pick up the phone or send off an e-mail.  Heck, let me know and I’ll hammer this thing out myself.  I even know a good realtor to help Jay get some new digs to replace his old pad in Denver, which is listed here in case you’re looking to re-locate.   Don’t know if they have much of that log cabin vibe going up in Lake Forest, but I’m sure we could find something nice.  (more…)
