PLAYER OVERVIEW:

Dean Lowry is a local product out of Rockford, Il. that the Bears have heavily scouted and is certainly on their board. Just a matter of if he’s there at the proper value that dictate whether they pick him or not. Very decorated at Northwestern being a two-time Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Chuck Bednarik Award winner with the Wildcats. Classic Pat Fitzgerald type of player which makes him a John Fox type of player. All in lunch pail kid with athleticism to boot.

MEASUREABLES AND PRODUCTION:

Lowry has both measureable and production to draw from. Has an extremely high floor yet with a lot of upside too given his athletic measureables. Showed well at both the combine and in his pro day. Also moved well in drills for a big man. His combine/pro day numbers can be seen here. Great SPARQ score too. As far as production he had as many tackles and more tackles for loss than Ohio state Defensive Lineman Joey Bosa had. His very impressive Northwestern resume can be found here.

SCOUTING REPORT:

Positives: Impressive prototypical size for a 5 technique. Plays with a high motor and gives full effort at all times. Very intelligent player on and off the football field. Scrapes down the line and has great backside pursuit. Fires off the line quick with good pad level to offset his 6’6″ height. Great punch and plays with heavy hands. Sure tackler. Once you’re in his grips you’re done. Has excellent short area quickness and can bend the edge. Bats a lot of ball down at the line of scrimmage.

Negatives: Despite good height he has short arms making it easier for offensive tackles to get in his chest and control him. More quick than fast. Needs to work on his pass rush moves and add a combination of counters. can use a little more ass and get under the pads of offensive lineman to dive them into the backfield with a better bull rush.
