Week 4 keys to victory: Chicago Bears vs Detroit Lions

3. Add offensive variety
Want to hear the Bears’ offense so far? Screen left, screen right, and “Jeffery go deep.” It’s not too hard to wonder why the Bears are 27th in the league at converting 3rd downs with that kind of variety.
Part of this was brought up earlier with running the ball more often, but the Bears desperately need some variety and creativity in the passing game.
Hopefully Zach Miller’s breakout performance last week proved to the Bears’ coaching staff that they need to work the middle of the field much more than in previous weeks. Eddie Royal has also shown that he can wreak havoc over the middle as well. While watching Kevin White and Alshon Jeffery fight through double coverage on deep balls is entertaining, it’s not the pathway to consistent offense.

A combination of running the ball along with some crossing routes will open up screens as well as the deep ball. The bottom line is that offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains needs to change up the offense significantly, or his time as an offensive coordinator will be short-lived.
