In a move that should be no surprise, Leonard Floyd was added to the injured reserved list on Thursday. Howard Jones was called up to replace Floyd

According to John Fox, the ACL of Leonard Floyd is not torn. However, the team is doing second tests on the situation, which would signify that this is a fairly serious injury. With just six games to go, and the Chicago Bears situation very clearly ending without a playoff game, there would be no reason to rush Floyd, a former top ten pick back into action. Hopefully, this means that we can officially expect a 100% Floyd by OTAs in the spring.

They should be using this time to see what they have in some younger names now. Isaiah Irving should get a major boost in snaps, and in the correlating move to sending Floyd down, the team brought up Howard Jones.

Jones was signed in the middle of this season and has spent his time on the practice squad until now. However, while Irving is an undrafted free agent and

a rookie at that, Jones actually has seen an NFL field. Jones was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2014 by the Pittsburgh Steelers and spent his 2014 season on their practice squad. The Steelers released him in 2015, and he spent 12 games that season on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers active roster. He even started five games and recorded five sacks in his second NFL year.

He did not have the same magic in 2016, and while he spent eight games with the Buccaneers, he did not finish the year there. Still, the Bears know exactly what they have in Sam Acho, and it should be a competition for Irving and Jones to get significant playing time, and put tape out there to convince the Bears or other teams to bring them on for the 2018 season.
