Teryl Austin is going to be a head coach and probably in 2018. But will he be manning the sidelines in Chicago? Austin is very well-respected in coaching circles and his name continues to be floated out there as a potential head coaching candidate.

Austin has been the Lions defensive coordinator since 2014. In 2014, the Lions were one of the top three defenses in the league. Since then, they have floated more in the middle of the pack and haven’t exactly dominated the sport but Austin has always been given credit for getting the most out of his talent, and finding guys like Kerry Hyder and turning them into dominant defenders.

Austin may be someone who Ryan Pace wants to talk to, but there is a better assistant coach on the Lions’ staff that the Bears should consider. More on him later.
