Yannick Ngakoue – Jacksonville Jaguars

If the Chicago Bears could pull this off, the defense would be even more elite. I am a big fan of Roy Robertson-Harris and Bilal Nichols, but if they could add Yannick Ngakoue the pass rush would be even better.

Ngakoue is coming to the end of his rookie deal. He was drafted in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft. In his first three seasons, he has racked up 8, 12 and 9.5 sacks. It would be shocking to see the Jaguars let him go, but they do not have a good salary cap situation going into 2020.

With the young player’s contract coming to an end this year, Ngakoue and his agent were pushing for a new contract before the year started. He even held a small holdout back in August. Ngakoue ended up returning to his team without a deal in place, but could that be a sign of what is to come this offseason? Would the Jaguars be interested in trading him?

The team already has a large amount of money invested in their defensive line. Between Marcel Darreus and Calias Campbell, the team has $37 million dollars allocated to just those two players alone for 2020. Unfortunately, this scenario will be difficult as the more likely move for the Jaguars would be cutting ties with Darreus and/or Campbell. Both of their contracts expire in 2021 and the dead cap hits are more reasonable.

If I am Ryan Pace, this would not stop me from putting a call into the Jaguars. Adding a guy like Ngakoue would solidify one of the best defenses in the NFL. The Bears have a few of their own lineman with expiring contracts after this season, but none have shown as much promise as Ngakoue has over the last three years.

If they can make the money work, I would send a 2020 second-round pick and a 2020 sixth-round pick for Ngakoue and a 2020 fourth-rounder.
