Chicago Bears: How tight end depth could be the key to the playoffs
By Jimmie Sykes
Jimmy Graham looks to write his final chapter
Jimmy Graham had his time being a premier player and tight end in the league. His best years were spent as the focal point in the Saints offense. Now, 33 years old, he’s looking for his signing with the Chicago Bears to pay off. He’s at an advantage for several different reasons with this team.
At six-foot-seven, he can be a red-zone target for either Trubisky or Foles. With him and Kmet being two large targets, they both can be an effective security blanket in the offense. His experience around the league could give a more veteran sound in the locker room.
Even though the game of football evolves through youth and speed, there’s still value in a veteran addition. Graham is coming off an NFC North title with long-time rival the Green Bay Packers. He became a veteran presence for the Saints, Seahawks, and Packers. Now, he gets his chance to be another voice in a new locker room.
Graham’s signing was an eyebrow-raiser across the league. Many questioned the contract he was given. Big speculation will be on Graham along with other controversial measures with the Bears. Believe it or not, the past couple of years turned the Bears back into a show. Primetime appearances, dominance, and even their shortcomings all played a role in this.
Regardless, people are going to talk about what’s going on in Chicago. It’s fair to welcome Jimmy Graham with a wave of redemption. The season kicks off on September 13, so we will soon see what’s capable of this tight end unit.
