2. Offensive Line Depth

It is hard to say that this is a disappointment because it was so expected. The Chicago Bears depth on their offensive line is awful. To be fair, their starting five is not winning any awards. However, when you start a former first-round right tackle at right guard as your big move to upgrade the line, it should be known that the depth is laughable.

The line was not mauling people over, but it was formidable with James Daniels. Daniels excelled in the new scheme and was becoming one of the most trusted linemen on the team. The second he went down things got awful.

Rashaad Coward has never played left guard in his life. Now he is starting in the NFL. Considering he was a former defensive tackle, the transition has been poor. Fans have clamored for Alex Bars, but if he cannot see the field over Coward, how bad is he?

When Bobby Massie went down we saw Jason Spriggs step up against New Orleans. Like Coward, he was a disaster. The Bears even saw Coward move to RT for a bit and pushed Bars into LG. Still, it made no difference.

The line was not going to be as great as it was. When you start digging into the depth of this unit, you start talking about one of the worst in the NFL. Ifedi was hope in the dark, Coward is a complete prayer, and Spriggs is not the answer at all.
