Is Ryan Pace the problem?

Do the Chicago Bears need to fire Ryan Pace? Most know I have supported him for a long time. Pace failed on Mitch Trubisky, and now it looks like he might have failed on the head coach Matt Nagy. The only reason I am giving him the benefit of the doubt is the record of Matt Nagy.

Call it luck, defense, or whatever you want, but the fact the team has not yet given up on themselves on the season or during games is something positive. The issue that a lot of general managers have had recently is they have been searching for these really good play-callers.

That is not the answer. The head coach does not need to be the smartest man on the field. Is it cool that Sean Mcvay and Kyle Shannahan can call plays with the best of them? Yes. But the job as the head coach is to prepare the team, scheme, and such to be ready for the game.

The fact that Matt Nagy missed what happened on the field during the Javon Wims incident is unacceptable. The head coach should be the first person to see and process what happens with a player that acts that way. I have been pounding the table that Matt Nagy should give up play-calling back in 2018.

The best coach in the history of the game does not call plays. Bill Belichick started as a special team’s assistant, receivers coach, linebackers coach, and worked his way to being a head coach. John Fox may have been a lost cause for the Chicago Bears, but he was right to say that he’s “not an offensive coordinator or defensive coordinator, but he coordinates all of those coaches.

That is what Matt Nagy should have been focused on from day one. The saving grace for Ryan Pace is for Matt Nagy to stop focusing on play calling and focus on his players, staff, and future players.
