What about the Chicago Bears promoting from within?

Many people believe that Champ Kelly deserves an opportunity to a general manager in the NFL. He is currently the Chicago Bears Assistant Director of Player Personnel. Rather than Kelly getting a shot at being a general manager for another team, what if the Chicago Bears looked to promote him to President (or as many other teams have, Vice President of Football Operations)?

It is doubtful that this is the career path Kelly had envisioned, but putting him in this position could be exactly what the Chicago Bears need. Kelly has plenty of experience in scouting but also has experience as a contract advisor. Kelly has also been a general manager and wide receivers coach within the United Indoor Football (UIF) league. In fact, Kelly was a prominent player himself with the UIF as well.

What is interesting about Kelly is that he also has worked in corporate America. Kelly has a degree in both Computer Science (Bachelor’s) and Business Administration (Master’s). He was successful working for IBM — a Fortune 100 company. Lastly, Kelly is a person of color and moving him up the chain could prove to be a great decision.
