Chicago Bears: 4 Unsung heroes who deserve more credit in 2020
By Cody Young
Tashaun Gipson has played very solid for the Chicago Bears.
No. 4: Tashaun Gipson
I didn’t rank this list in worse to best or anything like that but I do think there is a case to be made for Tashaun Gipson as the most unsung hero on the team. After losing Adrian Amos to the Packers after the 2018 season, the safety tandem last year wasn’t quite as good.
Eddie Jackson being paired with Clinton-Dix was a move that never made sense to me. They’re both the ball-hawking type of safety that likes to do their damage sitting back in the zone. Clinton-Dix was better than some fans like to give him credit for last season but it was clear a change would be coming in the offseason.
The Bears decided to give a contract to a solid veteran in Tashaun Gipson for the 2020 season and I feel that they made the right decision. Gipson is a former Pro-Bowler who fits well with Jackson because he is much more of a hybrid safety. If the Bears need him to ply in the box he can do that, if they want him playing back in the zone he can certainly do that as well.
The strong safety position is something that the Bears will still need to address in the future but I believe bringing Gipson back in the meantime would be a smart move for the team. He has started every game for the Bears this season and has produced in all of them. Whether it is creating turnovers or providing solid tackling by the veteran.
Gipson was never going to be the long-term answer for the Bears but it is good to see him get back to playing well after slipping a little bit since his Cleveland days.
