Chicago Bears players who will be gone after 2021: Nick Foles

We probably could be talking about both Nick Foles and Andy Dalton here, but we’ll see how this year plays out first. Dalton only has a 1-year deal in Chicago, so he’ll most likely be gone in 2022 as Justin Fields takes over.

Foles, though, is an interesting situation. He actually has two years left on his deal, with the Bears being able to get out in 2022, yet still taking on a $7.6 million dead cap hit. There is honestly a world where the Bears keep Foles as their backup next season, behind Fields.

But, with Chicago attempting to trade Foles this offseason and being unable to do so, the odds are that the Bears have a fresh look at quarterback next year, with a new backup behind Fields.

This year will be all about Fields getting as far along as he can in order to take over the starting gig, and Foles knows he’s not going to see the field. Yet, he was still one of the first guys to reach out and congratulate Fields after being drafted. That says a lot about his character and value to this football team, regardless of whether or not he steps foot on the field.
