Chicago Bears secondary

After cutting All-Pro cornerback Kyle Fuller and nickel corner Buster Skrine, Chicago faces a depth predicament for the foreseeable future in the secondary. The only defensive backs left with playing experience on the roster by 2023 will be safety Eddie Jackson, 2020 second-round pick Jaylon Johnson and 2020 fifth-round pick Kindle Vildor.

After attending Oregon and opting out of his senior season, 2021 sixth-round pick Thomas Graham Jr. brings valuable depth and potential for a thin position group while being signed through 2024.

Unless Chicago continues to draft cornerbacks and safeties for depth in the future, the team may be forced to continue to patch these holes through free agency at a costly price. We will have to keep an eye on this position group to see what Ryan Pace (or a future general manager) does to keep it relevant.

Final Thoughts:

As you can see, there will be plenty of turnover during Justin Fields’ first couple of seasons unless some of the younger, key players sign extensions. Will the team see an influx of young, draft talent or will the team piece together weaker positions through free agency?
