Chicago Bears might turn to the Kansas City Chiefs in a different way this time

According to Tom Pelissero, the Chicago Bears are scheduled to meet with Ryan Poles for a second general manager interview on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.

This will be the first candidate brought back for a second interview. The team has yet to interview Morocco Brown of the Colts and Omar Khan of the Steelers. Both are set to meet with the team on Monday. The point here is that Ryan Poles may not necessarily be the frontrunner, but he’s clearly a “finalist.”

Some sources believe that Ryan Poles is a leading candidate for the Minnesota Vikings job, and that might be why the Bears were quick to get a second interview scheduled with Poles. The team might want to make sure that Poles is either the guy before trying to keep him out of Minnesota or they might want to make sure he isn’t the guy in case the Vikings decide to hire him. Either way, it is a great sign for Poles to be getting so much attention.

This isn’t the first time that Poles saw attention though. Matt Conner of Arrowhead Addict turned my attention to a tweet by Field Yates back in 2017:

Wow. Clearly, Ryan Poles has been turning heads for quite some time. I asked Conner more about Poles and he had this to say:

"Fast riser in the ranks. Started with the Chiefs at around age 23 and remained in the front office through changes from Scott Pioli to John Dorsey to Brett Veach. Veach made him a quick promo since it was clear he was going to get poached one of these days. He was a scouting assistant who was promoted to College Scouting Coordinator. After holding that position for six years, he was promoted to Director of College Scouting and then Assistant Director of Player Personnel. He is currently the Chiefs’ Executive Director of Player Personnel."

Poles is only 36 years old, but he’s been rising through the ranks for quite some time now. He has been with the Chiefs his whole career (some worry that’s a knock on his resume), but to survive two regime changes speaks volumes in my opinion. Clearly, Ryan Poles is doing something right.
