A quick look at defensive players the Chicago Bears could draft

Personally, I would not expect Ryan Poles to choose a defensive player should he be picking someone with the seventh-overall pick. That said, there are some very solid EDGE defenders worth mentioning. The problem is, EDGE might be one of the deepest positions on the Bears roster. Both Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn are getting up there in age, but Mack had six sacks in a seven. game span before bing injured while Rober Quinn broke Richard Dent’s single-season sack record. Not to mention, Trevis Gipson has been fantastic as a rotational players.

The top EDGE rushers who could be available are Kayvon Thibodeaux out of Oregon, Jermain Johnson out of Florda State and David Ojabo out of Michigan. All three of these options could be worthy of being  picked by Matt Eberflus and Ryan Pace. Although he’s a little raw and only a true, one-year starter, David Ojabo would likely be my top option.

One option should he fall could be cornerback Derek Stingley, Jr. Stingley is a five-star recruit who played at LSU. Stingley dominated his freshman year with six interceptions. He hasn’t been lucky enough to grab any additional picks during his sophomore and junior years. Not trying to make too many excuses for the young corner, but it should be noted that he dealt with injuries over his last two years.

With news that the Chicago Bears will be shifting to a base 4-3 defense, maybe they decide they need a new man up front. Eddie Goldman looks to be an ideal cut candidate and who knows if Bilal Nichols is resigned to an extension. The team could look to draft Jordan Davis, interor defensive lineman out of Georgia. Davis is a 6’6″, 340 pound monster. He would fill in at the 3-technique as a dominant run defender. He will likely take on plenty of double-teams similarly to Akiem Hicks over the last few years. He would make the perfect fit for Matt Eberflus and Alan Williams’ defense.

As you can see, there are plenty of great prospects the Chicago Bears could have drafted this year should they never have traded up for Justin Fields last year. The problem with that is I would still take Justin Fields over any of them. Consider me biased. Consider me a fool. I just know what I see in Justin Fields and I don’t see that potential with any of these other prospects.
