Who does this mock drafter think he is — Ryan Pace?

With David Montgomery heading into the final year of his rookie contract, it makes sense for the Chicago Bears to consider selecting a running back in the 2022 NFL Draft. It will depend on how free agency shakes out, but a late-round

pick on a running back could turn into a solid option behind Montgomery and Khalil Herbert. Then, in 2023, the Chicago Bears will need to decide if they are going to retain the likes of Montgomery (please don’t overspend) or let him walk and move onto a Herbert and sophomore running back.

Well, this is exactly what this mock draft decides to do, but it doesn’t just wait to select a running back later in the draft. Instead, the person chooses to trade up yet again.

The Chicago Bears receive the 134th-overall pick in this trade with the Houston Texans. To make this happen, Ryan Poles would have to give the Texans two fifth-round picks. One is the 148th-overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and the other is a future, seventh-round pick in 2023.

When the Bears move up, it was to select that running back we were talking about. The team moved up to select Cincinnatti running back Jerome Ford. Ford is coming off an amazing season for the Bearcats. Ford was originally a recruit for Alabama, but after not seeing enough playing time, he transferred to Cincinnati. This year he was given the reigns and he saw 215 carries. Ford used those carries to gain 1,319 rushing yards and 19 rushing touchdowns. He added another 220 yards through the air and another touchdown.

Ford would be a nice option late, although I hope that James Cook was off the board. He’s the late-round running back I like most.
