The Chicago Bears should re-sign Deon Bush

A guy I am on the fence with in regards to fighting for vs just being happy about bringing him back is Deon Bush. Bush has been a backup safety for the Chicago Bears since he was drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Bush has been a consistent contributor on special teams, while also being able to step in and play significant reps at times when guys go down with injury or just to give a starter some breathing time. Last year was arguably Bush’s best year as a pro. He saw 44% of the defensive snaps while coming away with two interceptions, five passes defensed and 40 combined (31 solos) tackles.

Although a relatively small sample size, Bush has some excellent advanced stats to go with his raw numbers. While being targeted 23 times, he only allowed 39.1% of those to be completed and only gave up one touchdown. Quarterbacks saw a 36.0 QB rating while throwing in his direction.

It is possible that a team sees the potential that Deon Bush brings and decides he’s worth paying more than what Ryan Poles and the Chicago Bears have to offer, but I’d love to see him return on a two-year deal worth less than $2.5 million per year.
