2. Zach Banner

The Pittsburgh Steelers invested in Zach Banner thinking that he could be their starter at right tackle moving forward. Banner won a training camp battle in 2020 and was the week one starter. He tore his ACL the first week of the season, though.

The Steelers showed commitment by extending Banner while he was recovering. Unfortunately, was unable to recover and get onto the field in 2021. Now, the Steelers are looking at a player that they paid and got no production from.

They could save $5M from moving on from Banner this offseason, which seems like a no-brainer. Banner will not be making that money on the open market, but considering he has two career starts, that is not a worry.

The reality is that the Steelers bet on him and saw him as a starter before the injuries. If he Is fully healthy, that is still upside. On top of that, he is going to be making less money in 2022 than Germain Ifedi did in 2021. A cheaper, younger, version of Ifedi with the possibility to be more would be worth looking into. The Chicago Bears may not be looking at a starter but could be looking at strong depth.
