5 Arizona Cardinals cut candidates Chicago Bears could sign
3. Is Rodney Hudson the Chicago Bears next center?
Rodney Hudson has been a good center for a long time, mostly with the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders surprised many when they let go of Hudson, and because Hudson was let go so late, the Cardinals were able to jump on him.
He had another strong season but is now getting closer to 33 years old. The Raiders said they would rather be a year early than a year late and the Cardinals were able to prosper. The team got their money’s worth, so they have to be debating whether they want to be holding the hot potato when the timer expires.
The team could save about $10M by moving on from him, and it could be enticing for them. Of course, Chicago Bears fans are screaming out why would we want to hold the hot potato.
First, have you seen the Bears center position? They are desperate. Second, it all comes down to price. At $10M, it would sting for him to show up and be a step slower than you wanted. However, at a cheaper salary, he is a veteran center with little downside. He could help set a culture and show players how to extend their career into their 30s. Once again it all comes down to price.
