1. Would A.J. Klein fit beside Roquan Smith?

When the Buffalo Bills had Tremaine Edmunds on his rookie salary, they had no issue paying to have A.J. Klein as high-end depth. When Matt Milano was injured it was valuable to have Klein step in.

However, the Bills already paid Milano and are about to make a big commitment on Edmunds. It is nice to have that kind of depth, but if you have the most expensive pair of starting linebackers in the NFL you probably cannot have a highly paid backup as well.

While Klein was the number three linebacker in Buffalo, he would come to the Chicago Bears and play as the number two beside Roquan Smith. The Buffalo Bills could release Klein and save over $5M, and that would be the maximum that he would get on an open market anyways.

While the Bears want to invest in the linebacker room, they do not have to do what Buffalo did and have two of the highest-paid at their position. Having a highly paid asset like Roquan Smith means that his partner in crime can be a step below on the totem pole but at a cheaper price.

Klein is a run stuffer who could help on early downs. He obviously helped as a veteran in the locker room when it came to the progression of Milano and Edmunds, so this is someone teams may want in their room. If the Buffalo Bills let A.J. Klein go, the Chicago Bears may be one of those teams interested.
