The Chicago Bears could come to regret not signing Terron Armstead

First up is the free agent who just signed a contract yesterday. Terron Armstead was reported to be waiting to hear what happened with Deshaun Watson. Watson had the New Orleans Saints as one of his final three teams he’d be willing to waive his no-trade clause for, but he decided to go to Cleveland instead. Had Watson gone to New Orleans, it’s likely that Armstead would have stayed. Instead, he signed a five-year deal with the Miami Dolphins.

When we first heard that Terron Armstead was likely to hit free agency, many believed that he’d see north of $20 million dollars per season. The downfall with Armstead was always his age and his injury history. He has never played a full season in his nine-year career. In fact, he missed eight games just last season. That said, when healthy, Armstead is an elite left tackle.

Although I agree with Ryan Poles’ decision to not sign Terron Armstead, my reason had plenty to do with him earning over $20 million per year. That did not happen though as he signed a $75 million dollar contract that includes $43.37 million guaranteed. At that price, even I have to question as to why this is too expensive. I know, I already said his age (31) and injury history, but at that price, he could easily prove to be worth those risks.
