The Chicago Bears could come to regret not signing JuJu Smith-Schuster

Another player who honestly probably wouldn’t have chosen the Chicago Bears unless Ryan Poles offered a large overpay is JuJu Smith-Schuster. Did you see the contract that the Cardinals gave to Christian Kirk? I don’t think that Ryan Poles, “Mr. Conservative”, would ever overpay for a player the way the Jaguars did for Kirk, but would Smith-Shuster have been interested in a longer-term deal worth $14 million per year? That would have outbid the Chiefs.

That’s right, JuJu Smith-Schuster decided to go play with Patrick Mahomes. As much as I love Justin Fields, this decision should not shock anyone. Mahomes has proven elite already and I cannot fault Smith-Schuster for choosing a playoff-contending, Kansas City Chiefs team.

Something I failed to mention regarding La’el Collins that was also the same with JuJu Smith-Schuster is that the Chicago Bears were never linked to either player. Personally, I find that slightly troublesome, especially Collins. The 2022 NFL Draft is deep at the wide receiver position and I can fully understand why it’s not worth looking for free agent wide receiver help in what is essentially a fairly weak free agency class.

That said, I personally was a proponent of Smith-Schuster being signed here in Chicago. I wanted him to be paired with Darnell Mooney, Byron Pringle and a 2022 second-round draft pick. That is a legit receiver group that can help Justin Fields develop nicely.
