The Chicago Bears could sign free agent wide receiver Sammy Watkins

Now a somewhat forgotten man, Sammy Watkins is still just 28 years old. It seems impossible because it feels like Watkins has been around a decade. However, that’s not the case.

Once sought after as a true number one option, the Buffalo Bills nabbed him with the 4th overall pick back in the 2014 NFL Draft. The Clemson product has disappointed, to say the least. He hasn’t lived up to that draft billing. However, he can still be an effective player on the right team.

Watkins still possesses good size and speed, and as a third or fourth option, the Bears couldn’t go wrong here. While he is most effective in the slot, the Bears could use Watkins in more creative ways as well if Pringle is on the field.

He’s at the point in his career now where a prove-it deal is going to make sense until he shows that he’s deserving of a multi-year contract. Thus, the Bears signing Watkins to a one-year contract would not be a bad idea at all. He’s young enough and can still be a contributing player, especially given his speed.
