The process has been slower than some fans have wanted it to be, but the Chicago Bears have filled out the roster with a group of names under the age of 30, and all on cheaper contracts. Still, despite Lucas Patrick, Justin Jones, Nicholas Morrow, Byron Pringle, and a few more headlining the free agents, the team still has more holes on the roster than they have draft picks.

The Bears can certainly trade down, but they will probably still need to sign some players to fill out the 53-man roster. What are positions that may not be able to get filled even with the draft”

5. Chicago Bears will have to sign a Tight End

This is under-discussed at the moment because Cole Kmet fills the starting spot. However, the long list of depth players behind Cole Kmet reads Jesper Horsted. End of list. Fans are likely happy that he is the uncontested number two tight end, but for depth purposes, they need to add to this room.

The Bears will want to have three tight ends on the 53-man roster, and four with one on the practice squad. Many teams carry four tight ends as well. On top of that, the reality is that five or six should fill the 90-man roster.

Considering Kmet is the number one, and they have so many other needs on the roster it is hard to see them investing early if any draft picks to the position. A UDFA or two could be added, but they may be the five or six players that fill out the training camp roster.

Without enough draft picks and just needing a third and fourth tight end means that the team is likely to sign these players. This can certainly happen after the draft, but even if they draft a tight end, and add a couple of UDFAs, they may be wanting to sign another veteran, even if that is just for the minimum.

Some names that are still available include Jesse James, Darrell Daniels, Luke Stocker, and Kaden Smith. This is not the flashiest of flash, but for a third tight end, all of them would make the roster as of now. This is a position they will have to address.
