Biggest “Names” the Chicago Bears Cut: Michael Schofield, IOL

This might have been the biggest shock of them all. When Ryan Poles signed Michael Schofield and Riley Reiff to the team, I don’t think anyone thought neither wouldn’t be starting on the Chicago Bears offensive line come Week 1. Well, it turns out that is exactly what is happening.

Riley Reiff is sticking around, but Michael Schofield is out the door. This tells me that the rumors about Teven Jenkins still being shopped are just nonsense. There are no guarantees and I won’t sit here and tell you that I’m 100% confident Jenkins will not be traded. If the right offer came along, Ryan Poles is going to take it. However, it makes zero sense to me that the Bears would give Jenkins all of the starting right guard reps for two weeks, cut the guy who could replace him and then turn around and trade him.

Schofield is a solid veteran offensive lineman and I’m shocked he wasn’t kept over one of the Day 3 rookies (Zach Thomas and Ja’Tyre Carter) who I expected one of the two to be moved to the practice squad.
