Chicago Bears Thought No.1: The Bears land the No.1 pick!

With all the losses the Bears had to endure this season, landing the No.1 pick was the only thing that would be justified in an otherwise dreadful season.

Entering the game, the goal was simple. If the Texans beat an equally hapless Indianapolis Colts and the Bears lose to the Minnesota Vikings as expected, then the Bears will hold the No.1 overall pick for the first time since 1947.

Texans head coach Lovie Smith, a former Bears coach, was reportedly meeting with the ownership, making his case to be brought back for next season.

The Texans led most of the game, but then their embattled QB Davis Mills threw a pick 6 and another bad interception on consecutive drives in the 4th quarter, and the Colts eventually took the lead. The Bears fans’ hope was pretty much dead.

Then the improbable happened:

They went for two and converted!

And the moment when the Bears officially landed the No.1 pick!

Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions! The Bears needed a miracle, and the football gods smiled at the Bears. Unfortunately, Lovie Smith was fired Sunday night because winning against the Colts dropped them to the No. 2 pick, which probably did not sit well with the Texans’ ownership. But we will always forever thank Lovie if this is the last swan song for his coaching career.

Is it sad? Yes, to a degree. Some fans may not like it when the Bears looked like they were trying to lose yesterday on purpose to land a No.1 pick.

But after landing the No.1 pick, the Chicago Bears are officially on the clock. They can control the draft by entertaining offers from other teams, who want to draft a quarterback, and given the massive holes on this roster, they will need a lot of help this offseason.

Here is to hope that there are better days ahead for the Bears.
