Caleb Williams is in Halas Hall, marking his first day on the job as the quarterback of the Chicago Bears.
It's Caleb Williams time for the Chicago Bears
While Bears fans might've felt similar feelings three years ago, the Caleb Williams era has begun, and there's all the reason in the world to be elated with how Day 1 went for Ryan Poles and the Bears.
Not only did the Chicago Bears select Caleb Williams No. 1 overall, but they paired him with one of the top receivers in the draft in Rome Odunze. Personally, outside of Marvin Harrison Jr., Rome Odunze was my favorite receiver in the draft, and based on what Caleb and Rome have said about each other, it appears Ryan Poles made the right moves on Thursday night.
And in Williams' inaugural press conference as the Chicago Bears quarterback, there were some key things he said that should make Bears fans wish the season started tomorrow.
Sure, it might be early to call Caleb Williams a sure thing, as he has yet to play in the NFL. He comes into the NFL with areas he needs to improve, but that's every prospect. No prospect comes into the NFL without needing to improve at all.
However, Williams has a confidence in himself that's infectious. To some, it's arrogant and cocky, but that tone won't stick forever. There might not be much success in Bears history at the quarterback position, but as Ryan Poles said in his post-Day 1 presser, "And you know, the history's the history. I'm kind of done talking about it. You go back so much all the time and those days are over."
Ryan Poles is sick of living in the past, and Caleb Williams is ready to propel Chicago to NFL relevance.
And if you didn't think so before, you will after hearing this kid talk to the media in his first press conference as the future franchise quarterback of the Chicago Bears.
Takeaway No. 1: Winning cures all for Chicago Bears and Caleb Williams
Throughout the pre-draft process, Caleb Williams caught flack from many due to the things he does, wears, and says.
But to Williams, that's not going to phase him one bit.
winning. cures. all.

caleb williams gets it. block out the outside noise and win football games #BearDown pic.twitter.com/Su4mcweH7O
In a results-driven business like the NFL, the noise behind what people do and say gets drowned out if wins follow.
The reality of the situation is that, if Caleb Williams comes out in his rookie season and performs incredibly well, not a single Chicago Bears fan will care what color he paints his nails. No one will care if he wears funky clothing. For a franchise that's yearned for victory for so long, why nitpick the non-football factors?
Caleb Williams, nail polish or not, has incredibly desirable qualities for a quarterback, and the fact that the clothing he wears while "off the clock" had so many up-in arms".
Takeaway No. 2: Caleb Williams isn't ducking high expectations for Chicago Bears
Caleb Williams, D'Andre Swift, Roschon Johnson, Keenan Allen, D.J. Moore, Rome Odunze, Cole Kmet, Gerald Everett, Braxton Jones, Teven Jenkins, and Darnell Wright on the same offense? Pinch me, I must be dreaming.
On top of a defense that ranked highly at the end of the season, the expectations for the Bears are real. Now, there shouldn't be Super Bowl thoughts— JK... unless? No... — but the top two in the NFC North is a reasonable expectation going into next season. Caleb Williams has been touted as a top prospect for as long as he's been draft-eligible, and even before then, so to believe he should come into the NFL and have decent success with a star-studded supporting cast is reasonable.
And Caleb Williams isn't ducking those expectations.
"“What’s the reason to duck [high expectations]? It’s here. There’s no reason to duck. I’m here, Rome’s here, Keenan Allen, top five defense that we had last year, the special teams, we’re here. I’m excited. I know everybody’s excited. The Bears fans are excited from what I’ve heard and seen, and there’s no reason to duck. Attack it head-first, and go get it.”"Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears new QB
As someone with all the confidence in themselves to be great, Williams has no intentions of turning that confidence on now. When the lights shine, he's ready.
Takeaway No. 3: Caleb Williams expects himself, Bears to be great
In one of my favorite parts of Williams' introductory press conference with the Chicago Bears, Caleb said something that stuck out as one of the more significant things said
THAT’S MY QUARTERBACK!

When asked by the media, "Do you come in here expecting to be great right away?", Caleb Williams answered perfectly.
“Yeah, why wouldn’t I? Obviously, if there’s growing pains, you handle them," said Williams, sporting his patented smirk. "But, that doesn’t mean that affects your greatness."
At the quarterback position, there's almost a need for a little edge. As seen across the league, there are plenty of quarterbacks who, in the eyes of 31 other teams, are kind of cocky. Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, and Tom Brady come to mind immediately, and those quarterbacks didn't seem to be hindered much by an immense belief in themselves. It's what makes them who they are.
Caleb Williams is here, and his confidence, alongside his talent, is what will bring the Bears into postseason relevancy year after year.
