Chicago Sports Stars to fill out Bears’ Roster
Check out LeBron James’State Farm commercial, where he dreams of taking to the gridiron ; good stuff. I’m sure Browns fans love that idea.
Seeing the video and noting that Jeff Samardzija, the Cubs reliever who was a 2-sport star as a Wide Receiver at Notre Dame got me to thinking: Which Chicago athletes would best fill out the Bears’ roster. Here’s my short list:
Carlos Zambrano, DE
At 6-5, 255 Big Z would be a great fit as a pass rusher. He’s definitely got a motor and enough screws loose to take on the job. Ask Michael Barrett for a reference.
Derek Lee, TE
The 6-5 245 first baseman definitely has the hands to catch the ball, but lacks the speed to get the nod at wideout.
Reed Johnson, FS
The speedy Johnson would be a great addition to the secondary cause he can flat out go get it. He’d run through a wall for you.
Alfonso Soriano, WR
Do you think he’ll do that hop when he catches the ball???
Lou Pinella, K
Enough said.
AJ Pierzynski, LB
Even though I am a Cubs fan, I have to give a nod to the other side of town and AJ is surly enough and dirty enough to hold down one of the linebacker spots.
Bobby Jenks, RT
I don’t think it would be a stretch to have the 6-3, 275 pounder put on another 25-30 lbs to anchor the right side of the Bears O-line.
Alexei Ramirez, WR
The Cuban Missile would be a great target on the outside to pair with Soriano.
Derrick Rose, QB
This seems to be the year of the rookie QB, with Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco leading their teams into the playoffs. Hopefully, this rookie sensation can do the same for the Bulls, but I could see him distributing the ball on theBears’ offense. He’d be great in the Wildcat offense.
Nikolai Khabibulin, C
The Blackhawk netminder would only let 2.4 pass rushers through on average. Plus, I hear he doesn’t mind having bearded men put their hands on his butt.
Dustin Byfuglien, FB
The Hawks forward checks in at 6-3, 247 lbs. Methinks he could open a few holes in the running attack. And knock a few teeth out in the process.

Soriano should become a receiver. Then he wouldn’t be able to wave feebly at sliders in the dirt anymore.
