Back to Business for Bears after defeat of Broncos

Sorry gang, as I’ve told people lately, I feel like an accountant during Tax season.  This is definitely my busy time of the year.  Had the first of 3 fantasy drafts tonight, so I’ve been slacking a bit in gushing over the latest Bears victory in Jay Cutler’s triumphant return to Denver as the Bears silenced Invesco Field on Sunday night in front of a national audience.

It’s really quite simple; as I watched the game, I kept thinking, that’s a professional quarterback we have.  Our qb’s from days gone by just couldn’t make those throws and just didn’t have the savvy to play the position like Cutler.  On the near safety that Cutler smoothly evaded, Orton would have just stood there and taken the sack while Grossman would’ve run backwards about 20 yards.

I’ll take Cutler with the Bears wide receivers over Orton and the best 4 wide receivers in the league.  Give him Fitzgerald, Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne and TO and I’ll take Cutler with our wideouts.  No question.

It’s a short week , as the Bears turn around to for a Thursday night matchup hosting the Cleveland Browns to close out the preseason.  Here are some quick news and notes:

No surprise, the Bears cut ties with Dusty Dvoracek today.  Too bad for the most injured player of the decade – wish him well.  No big surprises with any of the other cuts.  The next round of cuts will be tough, so stay tuned to see which bubble players make the final 53-man roster.  More on that later in the week.

I guess the Bears coaching staff is getting a little impatient with some of the injuries and questions in the secondary, so they’re bringing in some help in the person of Rod Hood.  Hood was a starter on a couple of Super Bowl squads, so hopefully he can add some depth to the shaky cornerback position.

If Rod Hood doesn’t float your boat, how about a veteran safety.  How veteran?  How about 33-year old former Bear Tony Parrish?   TP has signed with the UFL in hopes of drawing attention to himself in an effort to get back to the NFL.
