Bears-Patriots Draft Deal in the Works?

Are trade winds swirling around Halas Hall?  It’s the time of year to speculate with just under a week until the NFL Draft.  Sun Times’ Bears beat reporter Sean Jensen thinks the Bears are primed to make a bold move given their recent history.

Is Olsen enough to get the Bears into the 2nd round?

He speculates that the Bears could be trying to trade up into the second round and the Patriots - owners of three second round picks – could be the perfect trading partner.  What could the Bears have that might interest the Pats?  How about Greg Olsen, who many believe doesn’t fit into Mike Martz’s scheme.  The Pats are in need of a tight end since losing Ben Watson.

I’m doubtful that Olsen is worth a second round pick and would be curious what else the Bears would have to package with Olsen to get into the second round.  Besides, we all know Jerry Angelo’s style – he hordes picks like a squirrel hording nuts before winter.

For my money, I expect JA to trade DOWN a couple of times to try to add more picks in this deep draft.

    Hey Boomer:

Do you think the Pats need depth at linebacker? We seem to have a pretty deep bench there, and was wondering if the Bears could package Williams or Roach with Olsen and peel away a couple of picks (a 2nd and 5th maybe)?

Pats fan here .We need pass rush or receiver help big time. Welker is running but wont be full out for some time. Unfortunately the pats dont have a 3rd ( wasted on Burgess blunder ) or Olsen would be perfect. A big target with good hands over the middle would help open the routes big time for Brady.

Thanks for checking back in City. I think that maybe you could package Olsen and one of your backup LB’s to get up into the second round (maybe one of the Pats’ higher 2′s?) but it’s a reach.

if the bears trade all that we need 2 2nd rounders from them!

Let’s not over-value our guys. Roach or Jamar Williams are no LB’s, but they’re not worth 2nd rounders. Think about it – Anquan freakin Boldin went for a 3rd and 4th. Granted, the Cards didn’t want to pay him, but still…

i am thinking the pats are going to trade up for Spiller or maybe Dez Bryant. Faulk and Taylor are aging, Maroney is just average.

sadly, i think we are all analyzing this way more than the Three Stooges at Halas Hall. Olsen and one of the young LBs to move up to the second rd??? Should be a no brainer, but that’s the problem, it makes way too much sense for it to happen.
