Bears Packers Game Notes and Open Thread

Psst.  I’ve got a secret for you.  The Bears play the Packers on Monday Night Football.  OK, unless you’ve just crawled out of a cave, you know that much.  Here are some other notes/previews and predictions heading into tonight’s clash for world domination and supremacy of the NFC North.

Keys to the Game

Run Forte, RUN!

The Packers come in ranked 28th against the run.  It’s a small sample size, but it’s worth trying to exploit.  Anything that will take some heat off Jay Cutler would be greatly appreciated!

Clay-mation

Clay Matthews has recorded 6 sacks in just 2 games.  Stop him at all costs!

Pick on Tramon

The Packers’ secondary could be exploited.  Tram0n Williams is the lucky contestant to get tested tonight.  I’d like to see a steady diet of Johnny Knox, Devin Hester and Devin Aromashodu coming at this guy all night.

Let’s see something Special

It’s time for the Bears’ special teams to turn it up a notch. They allowed a special teams score against them last week in Dallas.  It’s time to turn the tables.  Last time the Bears pulled an upset against the Packers, it was due in large part to a huge Danieal Manning kick return in the bitter cold of Soldier Field.   Let’s pop an early return to set the tone for the night.

NOTES

Bears will be wearing throwback uniforms.  Not quite as dated as the ones above, but they will be sporting uni’s that look more like this.

You won’t be seeing Major Wright or Chris Williams tonight.  Both are injured.  You won’t be seeing Johan Asiata either. He got cut today.  Wasn’t he one of the highly touted left guard prospects in the offseason?  Hmm.

In the long and storied history of the Bears, there’s about to be some history made. Long snapper Patrick Mannelly will surpass Steve McMichael in playing in the most games in Bears history.  My guy DeCon does not recognize long snappers as real players, so in his book Mongo is still tops.   As long as he doesn’t call any boneheaded audibles, it’s all good with me.

For all of you gamblers out there, I answered a few questions for Covers.com.  Check it out.

I will be at the game tonight, thanks to the generous folks at Marconi Foods, so if you stumble up into Section 443 way up hanging from the light towers, pop over and say “hey!”

BEAR DOWN!!!
