Bears-Packers Rivalry: Martin Slams McMahon (Video)

As a young, impressionable kid back in 1986, the Bears meant everything to me.  The 1985 season had changed the course of my life forever.  The Super Bowl Bears shuffled their way into my heart and would never leave.

I remembered a few rough hits between the Bears and Packers during that ’85 season, like Walter Payton getting ridden out of bounds and over the bench and Matt Suhey getting popped with a late hit just for standing around but I had no idea of the backdrop for these plays.  I had no frame of reference.

Back then, I didn’t really know about the Bears-Packers rivalry.  My parents were immigrants so I didn’t have the advantage of being taught about the rivalry from birth.  I had to learn about the rivalry firsthand.  Then this play in 1986 happened and my hatred for all things green and gold was emblazoned in my forever.

Yes, it’s the Charles Martin body slam of Jim McMahon that ended Jimmy Mac’s 1986 season and effectively ended the Bears’ hopes of a repeat trip to the Super Bowl.

Martin wore his hit list on a towel that included the Bears players he wanted to take a run at.  No, seriously.  Check it out.

That fucking coward picked McMahon up way after the play was over and slammed him to the Soldier Field turf.  The piece of shit Packers couldn’t hope to compete with the Bears, so they were reduced to taking cheap shots at the Bears.  From that day forward, anything and everything Packers is viewed through the prism of that play.    That’s why I hate the Packers and you should too.

Oh man, seeing that video again just pisses me off. When was Forrest Gregg fired? Did he ever have to pay a price for his provocation and acceptance of that meathead behavior?

Darkest day in bear history. What Boomer fails to mention is that we were a juggernaut that season, even better than the previous year.

I hated the pack before that, but never more than after…..

I couldn’t watch it at first….. but I had to.

    Fck green bay.

    full blood bath!

How you pussies let ANYONE enter soldier field wearing Packer gear is fckd up.

Boomer, when did the sideline hit on Payton happen, the next year?

Darryl Green ended that year on our home field, but it was Martin that derailed a dynasty.

What are you talking about Soldier Field might as well be Lambeau Field-South these days…

You’re an idiot. A dilusional idiot at that. There are Green Gay Pecker fans everywhere. They are certainly far and few between at Soldier Field. Shut your lying mouth.

wow you bears fans never cease to amaze me. How cynical of you to hate on all packers because of one cheap shot, you dont think bears have ever done it to us? lol jim wasnt all that good, he was good enough to get you to the superbowl and not lose it, it was mostly the bears amazing defense that won. So move on and stop hating on a team bc you got your feelings hurt, grow a pair, move on, its football. Lets enjoy a game we all love, without the hate.

Really not trying to be a smart-ass here but I think all the hate is what makes a rivalry fun. Honestly I enjoy rooting against the Pack and Vikes almost as much as I enjoy rooting for da Bears (I just feel sorry for the Lions, kinda hard to root against them). Not saying I want to spit in the face of every Pack/Vikes fan I see, in fact a budy of mine is a Vikes fan and it was particularly satisfying to bust his balls a bit over the 0-2 Queens after all the shit I took from him all summer.

F U Fudge packer. Shut your mouth. The Green Bay coach ordered his ape to do that cause he could never beat the Bears. Cost us another Super Bowl, can’t win without a decent QB. The Fudge Pack should have it’s lone Brett Favre SB win expunged as punishment. If a Bear had COMMITTED ASSUALT by ATTACKING say Brett Favre or now Aaron “I’m not gay but I’d let him do me cause I love him” Rodgers after a play was over you’d sh*t your little frou frou panties with rage and demand he be throw in jail for attacking your BF.

You know, for the most part the rivalry is knotted up as far as the record is concerned. I hate the butt packers for an all too different reason. They’ve never emitted class. Never once can I remember (in my 35 short years on this planet) has there been an apology from their organization for ANY bad hit or play like this hit. Payton, the most prolific and BEST EVER, running back to play the game said once, (when asked about the sideline hit from a Packer LB in ’86) “I forgive the Packers for one thing- one thing only… almost always losing to the Bears- and not beating the Vikings when it mattered.” F**k The Green Bag Peckers- they don’t hold a match to the Bears organization’s class and durability. Psst, Favre’s gone and Rodgers is on the “list” tonight.
