Flashback: 1966 Chicago Bears Highlights

Continuing our offseason series of Chicago Bears history lessons, we bring you the 1966 Chicago Bears, courtesy of Hulu.

The Bears couldn’t keep the momentum of the strong ’65 season, dropping to a disappointing 5-7-2 record. Gale Sayers led the team with 12 overall touchdowns, 8 rushing, 2 receiving and 2 on returns.

Saw this earlier, I love watching classics like these… Wish the NFL today wasn’t all flashy like they are and would get back to that blood, sweat, and tears mentality like it used to be

Watching old footage like this really reminds me of how much the rules have been refined over time, especially with regard to completion of a pass. Towards the end of the Bears/Vikings game, they showed a Bear pick off a Minnesota pass and immediately drop it as he fell to the ground. A teammate scooped it up, but the fact that such a play today would be ruled an incomplete pass really brings it home how things have changed in the sport.
(Not that it’s necessarily a bad thing that the rules have changed. Keeping the spirit of the game is going to have to play second fiddle to keeping the players decently safe at some point.)

Glad you guys like the flashbacks. It’s interesting to see how the game has changed, especially with replay.
