Babin Lands With Eagles, Bears Miss Again

So far the headline for Bears fans has been the guys that they haven’t gotten rather than the guys that they have gotten.  Add another name to that list now that former Titans defensive end Jason Babin has landed with the Philadelphia Eagles.

From an e-mail from Adam Schefter (not to me of course!):

“Philadelphia reached agreement with former Tennessee Pro Bowl defensive end Jason Babin on a five-year contract, according to a league source. Last season in Tennessee, playing for now Eagles defensive line coach Jim Washburn, Babin had 11.5 sacks. He now teams with Trent Cole to give the Eagles one of the league’s best end combinations.”

With the huge investment the Bears made in Julius Peppers last season, I never really believed that they would spend big cash on another defensive end.  The Bears will likely go to battle with Pep, Izzy Idonije, Corey Wooten and Henry Melton as the primary ends.

I expect the Bears to spend to bolster the interior defensive line by re-signing Anthony Adams and possibly adding Cullen Jenkins, whose chances of coming here are diminishing with the Cowboys and Redskins believed to be in hot pursuit.

I guess I do not have a problem with the Bears not picking up Babin. Like you said, they weren’t going to spend a large amount of money on a top DE. What I do have a problem with is that all I see us signing are undrafted free agents. They need to make a splash in this market before the decent players are gone. They need to land a top OL whether it is a tackle or guard I really don’t care. Any of the 3 from ATL will do. Then WR is the next need. I am okay with not getting a top guy. I would love to see Sims-Walker or Malcolm Floyd in a Bears uniform! Then comes the DL. They need to either get another DE and move Idonije inside or get a DT like Jenkins from GB. They also need to address the LB position since we missed out on Durant. I’m okay with Roach, but let’s not lose him too. Signing Kruetz is another must! This is what is so frustrating. Look at all of their needs and holes. I didn’t even mention Corner which also needs an upgrade. I am a huge fan of Tillman but he is trending downward. Seeing Detroit land guys like Durant and now rumored to be getting Joseph Johnson (CB) makes me think the Bears are trying to compete with MN for the bottom position of the NFC North. Do me a favor Jerry Angelo, make a move that helps this team or get out of town!

Couldn’t agree more. I was never in love with Babin as I’m never a fan of paying someone huge money after one good year; however, I wish by now the Bears would have locked up SOMEBODY. I’m starting to wish the lockout never ended as the Bears are quickly falling behind the Lions, the friggin Lions! At this point I’m just hoping they make some huge OL signings and partially salvage what is quickly looking like a disaster.

@Mr.Pickles But Mr. Pickles…..did you not hear? We did lock up SOMEBODY. We are now giving our Punter over $2 million dollars a year, making him one of the top 5 paid punters in the NFL. (Obviously said with sarcasm) I love seeing how the Bears prioritize their needs. WTG Jerry Angelo, you are the man!! (Again with the sarcasm)
