Forte Flattens Pair of Bucs Defenders with One Move

I just can’t get enough of this juke by Matt Forte on his way to a 32-yard touchdown run.  Don’t miss the two Buccaneer defenders flattening each other at the 11 yard line while #22 in white slides through for six.

I LOVED watching that when it happened. Rewound it about a dozen times. It didn’t get nearly the play from the network that it deserved. That whole run was absolutely fantastic and showed why @mattforte22 needs to get paid.

The more stuff like this happens the less I feel like he will be here next year. If the bears were going to pay him why have they waited so long? The price keeps going up with every week. As they announced this is the first 1000+ yard producer in almost a decade. And as he gets closer to the end of the year the leverage shifts his way; As risk of injury reduces every week. If he gets a chance to hit the open market, his price tag is going to sky rocket. Better start organizing some “pay forte” chants or whatever it takes, before he is added to the long list of good people, coaches and players, this front office has lost.

Ken – make no mistake about this – Forte will be here next year as long as the Bears want him to be here. The Bears can slap the old franchise tag on him for the next 2 seasons. Year 1 would be for about $8 million, Year 2 about 120-125% above that. I’m sure that’s not how either side would like for it to go down, but that is the Bears’ leverage.

Don’t forget this – and it’s a common misconception – the Bears have made multiple offers to Forte. it’s not like they’re refusing to negotiate with him. He just wants more than what they’re offering.

By the way, the 1000 yard from scrimmage thing is fastest to 1000 yards since Tiki and Priest Holmes did it by Week 7 in 2004. @kengrad

@BearGogglesOn yeah my statement would have been more clear to put it as, he is the first to reach the mark before the halfway point of the season, since the two that you mentioned. As far as the bears making him offers, are you talking about recently? I’ve heard they are not negotiating. I did a quick Google search and found this as a source. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-10-10/sports/chi-angelo-forte-contract-situation-will-take-care-of-itself-20111010_1_general-manager-jerry-angelo-negotiations-matt-forte

aside from that do you think the bears would want to throw the tag on him for that much? if so why not just get a deal done if they are will to pay that much? unless he is asking for way more than that, I don’t know. I

@BearGogglesOn@kengrad I think anyone who’s been following this knows they’ve made offers to Forte. The problem is that Angelo low-balled him from the get go and then HUGE offers came in for Williams and Johnson who held out and a fairly large offer to Gore which from my understanding was the REAL sticking point. Meanwhile Forte has done nothing but act with class and dignity this whole time after Angelo all but promised to get a deal done. I’m sure at this point he’s regretting not holding out for the deal to get done beforehand because as far as I’m concerned Angelo has handled this just as poorly as nearly everything else he touches.

@Obnxs1 @BearGogglesOn I’ve been vaguely following, and I can’t find a source that has said that an offer has been made or contract talks have occurred since the start of the season (last I can find online is the offer that occurred around Sept 1st. Just keep hearing more jerry promises. Believe me I would love to know they are talking I just don’t have that faith on the front office right now. I’m not from the Chicago area and this may be why the news hasn’t reached me, but I only listen to sports talk and keep ESPN on as often as I can, and I haven’t picked up on any recent details.

No, you are right Ken, they have not made any offers since the beginning of the season. Once the season started, all negotiations stopped. So before the season started they did make him some offers. But the offers were very small and the Bears front office literally told Matt Forte that they don’t think he’s an elite back and that’s why he was getting an offer below Frank Gore’s.I think Matt Forte is now showing him that he is indeed an elite back and deserves at least as much as Gore got. And if the Bears keep holding out, and Matt keeps performing, he’ll be able to ask for a lot more than that.Pay the man before you can’t afford the man, but don’t be a cheap ass either.
