Bears Waive Iwuh, Promote Trahan

In the least exciting news you’ll hear today, the Bears waived reserve linebacker and special teams standout Brian Iwuh.  Iwuh was injured in the Raiders game, so the Bears decided to put him on the injured/waived list.  If he clears waivers, he’ll go onto the Bears I/R.

Iwuh was the Bears’ leading special teams tackler with 14 so far this season.  He also did a nice job filling in at linebacker for an injured Lance Briggs last season as well.   To take Iwuh’s place the Bears have promoted linebacker Patrick Trahan from the practice squad.  Trahan spent time with on the Tennessee Titans practice squad last season.

The move further challenges the Bears’ linebacker depth if the worst were to happen to starters Nick Roach, Brian Urlacher or Lance Briggs.  Their backups are Dom DiCicco, Jabara Williams and the recently promoted Trahan.  You thought we had problems at backup quarterback.  Yikes!    Look for the Bears to address this in the offseason.
