Two Chicago Bears accustomed to taking trips to Hawaii will not be going in 2012, at least not based on the voters. While five of their Chicago Bears teammates were selected, Julius Peppers and Devin Hester were not selected to the 2012 Pro Bowl. It’s a mild snub that neither is going this season. Both are the victims of the numbers game.
It’s hard to put a number on many of the things that Julius Peppers does on the field. Even though he’s the first Bear to record double digit sacks since Mark Anderson’s 12 in 2006, he’s far behind NFC sack leaders Jared Allen, Jason Babin and Jason Pierre-Paul. Voters dig sacks and Peppers didn’t notch enough of them to get an expense paid trip to Hawaii.
As for Hester, it’s clear that he’s either injured or in some kind of crazy slump. After a great start to the season, including setting the all-time mark for kick returns, Hester has been disappointing to say the least. In a time when Bears fans were counting on Hester to help make up for Jay Cutler’s loss, Devin disappeared. Hester’s three return touchdowns this season leave him behind Arizona Cardinals rookie Patrick Peterson, who has 4 returns.
What do you think? Were these guys snubbed? Were any Bears sent who were undeserving?
