Congratulations to Chicago Bears cornerback Tim Jennings, who was named September’s NFC Defensive Player of the Month.  The honor is well deserved by the 7th year cornerback who has had a stellar first month of the 2012 season, bouncing back from a benching last season and putting together a terrific offseason and carrying the momentum into the regular season.

Besides Jennings’ league-leading four interceptions, he added six passes defended (two of which were tipped balls the led directly to teammates’ INT’s), 18 tackles including one for loss.  This is Jennings’ first Player of the Month award.

Joining him with September Player of the Month awards are Atlanta QB Matt Ryan (NFC Offensive) and Viking Percy Harvin as NFC Special Teams. Over on the AFC side, Texans DE JJ Watt earned defensive honors while Bengals WR AJ Green won Offensive Player of the Month award.  (Must be something about initials in the AFC).  Titans kick returner Darius Reynaud was named Special Teams Player of the Month.

Just as an aside, the Detroit Lions should share in the special teams honors, as both Harvin and Reynaud had huge days against the Lions’ awful coverage units.  Devin Hester might be in for a special night on October 22nd at Soldier Field when the Lions come in for a Monday Night Football matchup.

Congrats Tim.  Keep up the great work!!!
