Special teams coordinator Dave Toub recently interviewed with Phil Emery for the Bears head coaching job earlier this week but like any good special teams guy, Toub isn’t getting pinned deep.  Toub interviewed with Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera for the Panthers special teams coordinator.

Toub is under contract with the Bears through 2013 and teams are not allowed to interview other teams’ assistants for lateral moves, so it’s likely that Toub is being offered a promotion, like assistant head coach.  Toub and Chico worked together under Lovie Smith until Rivera was sent packing following Super Bowl XLI.

Another guy with a connection to Toub is new Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, whose time with Toub dates back to the 80’s.  Toub is expected to interview with the Chiefs for a similar role.

Toub was one of Lovie Smith’s first hires back in 2004 and his special teams units have consistently ranked among the top in the league.  He interviewed for the Miami Dolphins head coaching job last season, but in true Bears fashion, he lost to Packers’ OC Joe Philbin.   If Toub doesn’t get the Bears head coaching job, it’s a good bet he will be gone next season.
