Countdown to Kickoff… 94 Days Until the Chicago Bears Season Opener

facebooktwitterreddit

I decided to do a countdown to the Chicago Bears season opener on September 8th versus the Cincinnati Bengals.  Thanks to one of my followers on Twitter @Beneiserle, I decided to combine the countdown with a roster preview of sorts.

We’re Turk McBride days away from kickoff.  Who is Turk McBride, you ask?   Turk is a Defensive End in his first year with the Bears.  He’s a bit of a journeyman, having spent his last couple of seasons with the New Orleans Saints with stops in Detroit and Kansas City before that.

He and Phil Emery spent time together in Kansas City, although Emery was with Atlanta when the Chiefs selected McBride in the second round of the 2007 draft.  Maybe you remember him from his days on the Chiefs when they filmed Hard Knocks in his rookie year.

He’s had an unimpressive career, with just 9.5 sacks in his seven year career.  I expect McBride to make the team as a part of the defensive end rotation.    If rookie Cornelius Washington can emerge, he could push the veteran to the fringe of the roster.

If we’re looking at 94’s in recent Chicago Bears history, I’d be remiss if I didn’t single out my favorite 94, Keith “Tractor” Traylor.  Who could ever forget this epic interception return:

My favorite part is about a third of the way through the run, he looks to pitch, but none of his teammates bite and make the big fella leg it out 67 yards before he finally gave chased down.

We’re Turk McBride days away from kickoff.  Are you ready???

BEAR DOWN!!!
