We decided to do a countdown to the Chicago Bears season opener on September 8th versus the Cincinnati Bengals.  Thanks to one of our Twitter followers,se decided to combine the countdown with a roster preview of sorts.

Ron Rivera played for the Chicago Bears from 1984-1992 during his entire 9 year NFL career. Rivera had only 5 career starts in his second to last season.  He was the backup for Mike Singletary for most of his career.  Rivera career stats are 7.5 sacks and 9 interceptions.

Rivera didn’t even get to be a part of the Super Bowl Shuffle crew. After his playing career ended he began a coaching career that’s highlight so far was being the Defensive Coordinator for the 2006 NFC Champion Chicago Bears.  After leaving the Bears he landed in San Diego before taking over the head coaching position for the Carolina Panthers.  It seemed like he was going to be fired 2 years into his head coaching career until the Panther made a nice comeback to end the 2012 season.

Current #59 is Patrick Trahan, Trahan is currently listed as the 3rd string linebacker with special teams as the only real possibility to see playing time and a roster spot in 2013.
