We decided to do a countdown to the Chicago Bears season opener on September 8th versus the Cincinnati Bengals.  Thanks to one of our Twitter followers,se decided to combine the countdown with a roster preview of sorts.

We’re Blake Costanzo days from the start of the Chicago Bears season.  What does 2013 have in store for the special teams ace?  Let’s have a look, shall we?

The Bears special teams will be another longtime unit that will be in for a change in 2013.  Dave Toub has bolted to Kansas City and Joe DeCamillis brings his scheme from Dallas to try to keep up the high standard of Bears special teams.  Under Toub, the Bears special teams were always among tops in the league.

Costanzo enters his seventh season in the NFL and his second with the Bears.  He was brought in to be a special teams ace, but he ranked 11th on the team in ST tackles.  I think that Costanzo could be on the roster bubble entering 2013.  He wasn’t exactly a standout on Special Teams and has limited usefulness playing linebacker.  With nearly a $1 million cap hit for 2013, he will be competing with the much cheaper guys like Patrick Trahan, JT Thomas and Jerry Franklin for a roster spot.

We’re 52 days from kickoff.  Are you ready???
