DJ Williams, meet Wally Pipp.  Who’s Wally Pipp you ask?  He was the Yankees first baseman who had a bad headache and was given the day off.  Lou Gehrig was given the job and started an iron man streak that lasted 2130 games.  Pipp never saw the starting lineup again.

DJ Williams was the presumed starter heading into training camp, but a calf injury has him sidelined.   Rookie Jon Bostic has been performing well in camp, but a strong outing in the first preseason game puts him in a stronger position.  There should be an interesting battle unfolding when Williams returns from injury.

1. Right Tackle

If you thought just relocating JWebb Nation from the west coast to the east coast would make a difference, guess again.  Webb struggled mightily once again.  The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Eben Britton had been showing well in camp, but he didn’t knock anyone’s socks off in his time.  Rookie Jordan Mills looked overmatched on more than one occasion.  When is Jonathan Scott going to be healthy enough to go earn that job???

What do you think?  What positional battles should be heating up after what you saw in the first season game?  Let’s see your thoughts.

We have to keep in mind this was only one game, so with time to actually game plan and prepare, players will know what weaknesses they need to work on and overall what they need to prepare for.

That being said, I see Nate Collins challenging Stephen Paea for starting time.

    • ScottA

Was Collins suspended last year or is it this year? Saw a need to wrap up better on tackles. Read something about Edwin Williams being odd man out but he got reps at center also.

      • John Mack

I think it was last year.

There is no RT battle when the awful inconvent has no serious competion to apoise him.

    • John Mack

Why don’t we just slide Long over to RT, since he’ll eventually project there anyways?

But maybe Jordan Mills hasn’t shown what they hope for in a guard, and perhaps they don’t fully trust James Brown. I say slide Long over to Tackle and keep Brown at Guard.

I think I’d rather have Jordan Mills at RT over Webb

        • John Mack

Well Long was projected as a future tackle and there’s no time like the present. In either case JWebb needs to be a backup for relief purposes. I’m sure his durability has helped keep him around.
