The Chicago Bears worked out 8 players at Halas Hall today;  Among them veteran defensive back Amari Spievey.  Also included in the workout were fellow DBs Brandan Bishop, Sean Catthouse, and Chaz Powell, Center Nick McDonald, and offensive tackle Rogers Gaines.

Spievey played cornerback at Iowa before being drafted by the Detroit Lions with the second pick in the third round (66th overall) in the 2010 NFL Draft.  He was moved to safety by the Lions and opened the 2011 season as the starter.  Gaines played his college ball at Tennessee State and entered the NFL in 2013 as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens.

Nothing much to see here.  This is likely just due diligence from Phil Emery, something we Bears fans have become accustomed to over the past year.  I personally like that Phil Emery is so thorough in his evaluations of players both currently on the roster and those not yet on it.  You never know where you could find a diamond in the rough.  Rogers Gaines reminds me a lot of J’Marcus Webb (hopefully not as bad) in terms of his monstrous size, incredibly long arms and intriguing athleticism for such a large man.  Like Webb, He just needs to show he can perform at the NFL level.
