Chicago Bears sign Jared Allen to 4 Year Deal

This just in, according to Brad Biggs, the Bears have signed defensive end Jared Allen to a 4 year deal. We now know why the Bears were freeing up cap space by adjusting Jay Cutler’s contract the other day. Phil Emery is not playing games in free agency. The defensive line was the biggest problem last year in both getting to the quarterback and stopping the run. We know that Jared Allen can do both. Even though Jared Allen probably only has a few seasons left in the tank I think the Bears can get the most out of him.

Just think, if history repeats itself, the Packers will probably sign him next after he is done in Chicago. I think this is a great move by Phil Emery. Tell me what you think in the comments below. Bear down!!!

I was all in on drafting A. Donald in round 1 but we’ve picked up so much quality on the D Line in Free Agency I have no idea wich position we going for in round 1 now. A trade down scenario sounds even sweeter now #BearDown

  • Michael Praser

I think this opens up the draft and trading down will absolutely be an option now.

No doubt this changes things with the draft. CB or S at 14 if they don’t trade down. There are good DT in the second round like Quarles and Ferguson. They are still thin at CB and other than re-signing Bowman I suspect Emery is done with UFA.

I totally disagree. Emery knows that a defense is built from the line out and there will be solid option at the safety and CB position later in the draft.

That being said, I am positive that Emery will do something absolutely no one expects in the first round.

Jared Allen is hungry for a championship although I’m sure $$$ was a motivating factor. Allen obviously sees posititive signs in Chicago which is a very good sign in regards to other potential free agents. I realize he is on the wrong side of 30 but I believe he has at least a couple years left in the tank. Good move by Emery.

I think Emery has pulled off the coupe of FA the year. Jared Allen immediately makes the Bear’s DL one of the most feared lines in the NFL when you look across the board in terms of player skill sets and abilities. Consider this package…Willie Young and Jared Allen DE, Lamar Houston and Jerimiah Ratliff NT and DT….now picture Briggs, Williams and McCellan at LB with Tillman and Jennings on the Corners….Conte and Mundy are left to do the clean up or deep protect. The Bear’s front seven should be extremely formidable and very, very dangerous for opposing QB’s and OC’s. When you consider how good this defense looks on paper at this point coupled with the NFL’s 2nd highest scoring offense….I believe the Bear’s have to put in the conversations to win the Super Bowl on a very serious level. Green Bay may have been the team to beat in the NFC North…but Chicago threatened that last year with just an offensive unit…..add to that a very dangerous defense and a special teams unit that can still score and give them excellent field position…and there is no doubt that the Bear’s are the team to beat in the NFC North this season. Hey A Rod….having nightmares yet….:) Bear Down!

@ManGod.. Agreed. However, I only hope that our DEFCOORDINATOR, Mel Tucker, defensive schemes are effective… If not, then all the noise 4him 2B Fired would’ve been justified! Lastly, I’m hopeful that Emery will be very stealth like during the draft rounds as he seeks the remaining and integral parts of our defense, I.e., D-Lineman, Cornerbacks, & Safeties… Da Monsters of the Midway will be serious contenders this year! Go Bears.
